What Animal Is In My Attic?
Noise alone may not identify the species — but the time of day, the type of sound and the visible signs can help narrow it down. Here's a practical guide.
Start With Timing
When you hear the sounds is one of the most useful clues. Different animals are active at different times — and that can help you figure out what you're dealing with before anyone looks in the attic.
Sounds at Night
Heavy thumping, walking or rolling sounds in the dark often point to raccoons. They're most active at night and are heavy enough to make distinctive sounds.
Raccoon RemovalSounds During the Day
Scurrying, running and chewing sounds during daylight — especially in the morning and late afternoon — often point to squirrels. They're active during the day.
Squirrel RemovalChirping at Dusk & Dawn
High-pitched squeaking or chirping around sunset and sunrise, along with staining near entry points, can indicate bats.
Bat Removal & ExclusionDroppings & Gnaw Marks
Small droppings, gnawed materials and scratching in walls — especially in kitchens or along baseboards — often point to rodents.
